Guest Lecture by Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Tsiantoulas: Insights on APRIL's Role in Cardiovascular Health
On September 26th, 2024, Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Tsiantoulas from the Medical University of Vienna joined the TRR259 community at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf for an insightful lecture and a “Meet the Expert” session with TRR259 students. He shared his latest research on the protein APRIL and its role in cardiovascular diseases, highlighting its importance in immune system functions related to heart health. The event offered students a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research and gain valuable knowledge from an expert in molecular medicine.
TRR259 kickoff event of the 2nd funding period
On the sunny day of August 14, 2023, all scientists from the Düsseldorf site gathered for a kick-off event of the 2nd funding period of our TRR259 at Scotti’s Restaurant.
Successful 4th International Symposium of the TRR259
On June 18th, 2024, the University Hospital Düsseldorf successfully hosted the TRR259 International Symposium on Aortic Disease. The event took place in the lecture hall of the Surgery Department, drawing a distinguished group of experts from around the world to discuss cutting-edge research and advancements in the field of aortic disease.

Women Connect Series
In September 2021, the “Women Connect Series” network for female researchers was founded. Together, the TRR259, TRR237, Cluster ImmunoSensation2, iRTG2168 and SFB1454 want to organize a network with workshops, lectures and network events for female scientists.
As a prelude, we offer an exciting workshop on the topic of "Improvement of visibility and media strategy" followed by an exchange of experiences between the participants and the coach.

Young Investigator Award
Big congratulations to our TRR259 member, Dr. Mohammed Rabiul Hosen!Dr. Hosen received the Young Investigator Award (YIA) in Basic Science Session from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the presentation of his latest translational work on ESC congress-2021, from August 27-30, 2021.
TRR259-Retreat
The third annual meeting of the TRR259 took place this year as a hybrid event. In order to talk to all TRR259 members and associated members about the research results in the field of aortic diseases, all lectures to Bonn, Cologne, and Düsseldorf were streamed live from the Schlosshotel St. Goar. The successes of the last 2 years were discussed together and further plans for future projects were presented.
