FridayEntering Leadership
The workshop Entering Leadership provides a structured insight in basic leadership questions. What is „leadership“? What tasks are related to leadership positions? Entering such a position means to enter a new social role and to define how we as individuals want to interpret this role. Role theory allows to describe and understand the different dynamics related to leadership. Additionally, we will explore leadership tasks and styles and create links to practice of leadership. The last part of the workshop addresses difficulties young leaders have to face quite often. If young leaders enter established and experienced teams there might start some struggle about being accepted as leaders - a process some authors call status games.

Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) offers guidelines for quality assurance in the production of pharmaceuticals. Knowledge of GMP is often a crucial requirement when applying for industry jobs, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. This GMP basic course focusses on topics that will be applicable to their industry position. We cooperate directly with well-known companies of the Life Science sector. Additionally, you get the chance to come into contact with prospective employers. After successful examination the attendees receive the GMP certificate, issued by the certified provider.

Most of the content of your dissertation is now clearly defined. Outline and structure are beginning to take shape and the submission deadline is drawing closer. Your main question is: “How can I use the remaining time most efficiently?” The “Getting it Done”-workshop provides you with useful tools to tackle the final stage of your dissertation with as little hassle as possible. Get to know tried and tested methods for developing your own realistic project schedule. It is also important for you to keep working continuously until you finally submit your dissertation: learn how to develop helpful strategies to cope with persistent levels of stress and strain. Depending on participants‘ specific needs and interests, we will also focus on techniques for efficient writing, the topic of supervision and support, and questions concerning the defense.

ThursdayArgumentation in Scientific Writing
Scientists have to be able to present their arguments in a precise and convincing way. However, when writing their papers, many scientists rely on intuition rather than on concrete methods. This course provides participants with all the techniques they need to know in order to state their arguments precisely, correctly and convincingly. The course starts with the basic concepts of reasoning and logic: validity and soundness of arguments, deductive and inductive reasoning, common types of logical inferences. From these basics, we derive useful techniques for argumentation in scientific texts. Throughout the course participants get the chance to apply the acquired skills directly to their own work, to get feedback on already existing manuscripts and to produce new texts on their research topics.

TuesdayProject Management for Researchers Principles, Methods and Tools
This particular training course is designed to provide participants with a basic knowledge of project management and to extend or polish up their already existing competencies. They can learn to systematically start and plan projects by making use of recognized and approved methods. They get to know how to deal with the diversity of stakeholder expectations. They become acquainted to the techniques of project monitoring and controlling and they get the chance to interactively develop a common understanding of project management principles, methods and tools. On completion of this introductory course the participants should have gained a first insight into the ways and means of running projects more professionally and that is: structured, easier, more efficiently, and with a higher awareness of different interests and expectancies.

„Wow, that presenter is so good in front of an audience. If only that were easier for me!“ Being a good speaker is often just question of developing a set of skills and techniques. The use of voice and body language, an effective presentation structure and the dynamic use of language require awareness and practice. The workshop helps to identify and explore these requirements, from self-reflection to self-assurance and long-term excellence. This is an activity-based workshop led by a professional trainer with a background in theater whose expertise is in helping the speaker effectively communicate the importance and relevance of the work and the core message of the talk. Participants with presentation experience can strengthen the narrative, the emotional tone, and the physicality of their talk in order to define and support the speaker’s own dynamic style.
