Revolution in Cardiac Surgery: The Aorta is now Recognized as an Independent Organ Revolution in Cardiac Surgery: The Aorta is now Recognized as an Independent Organ

For years, our research team in the TRR259 has gathered groundbreaking insights into the aorta. Now, the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) and the American Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) have stipulated that the aorta should be considered as an independent organ in the human body.

We established TRR259 five years ago to promote deeper insight into pathologies of this organ and improve the treatment of aortic diseases. Our continuous research has not only influenced the medical landscape but has also contributed to recognizing the aorta as an independent organ.

The new guidelines, published under the title "EACTS/STS Guidelines for Diagnosing and Treating Acute and Chronic Syndromes of the Aortic Organ," reflect and highlight the fruits of our long-term efforts. This groundbreaking recognition not only marks a milestone in medical research but also illustrates our understanding of the aorta and its related diseases.

As pioneers in this field, we take pride in contributing to this milestone in aortic research. The scientific and medical future evolving around aortic diseases and ensuing novel treatment options looks promising, and our TRR259 we will continue to be at the forefront.
